The existence of the “La Doys” estate dates back to 1564, when Jacques de Becoyran received land for lease from Lord Lafite. Château Lafite Rothschild is just a few hundred meters away. In the 18th century, the estate was owned by the Barre family, which gave splendor to the castle buildings. The nineteenth century is the golden age for the Médoc wine. In 1850, the first edition of Cocks & Féret recognized the vineyard as one of the best in Saint-Esthephe. According to Féret in 1898, the estate covered 75 ha, three quarters of which were planted with vines. The guide gave him the rank Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, status officially confirmed in 1932 and again in 2003.
